All Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches must take this training by Dec 31, 2017 if they are going to Head Coach or Assistant Coach in 2018 and beyond in the Archdiocese of Washington (ADW).

This class will be taught by Mary Fava, ADW CYO and Tom Walsh, SPX CYO.

There will be videos, worksheets, discussion groups, and dialog on a number of topics involved in this Catholic based CYO centered coaching philosophy.

Note, while the class can be taken at any ADW parish offering it through the ADW, there are only so many offerings between now and the end of the year, and specifically for SPX there will likely only be one more class taught at SPX in the fall before Dec 31 so please attend this one if you can.

Also, please note that it is important to sign up at the link above so that handouts can be printed ahead of time, and so we have a good headcount for the food.

Thanks and hope to see you there!
Tom Walsh

Solicitation of Interest

SPX CYO is measuring the interest level of those who may want to participate in CYO Track and Field for Spring 2017.   If your child is interested in competing, and/or if you are interested to head coach or assistant coach, please contact Tom Walsh at ltmwalsh@verizon.net.   Below are just a few details:

  • There would be 6 meets, with the first meet scheduled the first week of April
  • Events for Field begin at 8:00 a.m. and include Long Jump, Shot, Disc, and Turbo Javelin
  • Events for Track begin at 9:00 a.m. and include 100 Yard Dash, 200 yards, 4×100, etc.
  • Meets usually run about 6 hours
  • A child may compete in up to a total of 3 events

Unlike Cross Country, Track and Field ‘will’ directly conflict with Baseball/Softball!

If there is enough interest in having a team, Tom Walsh will be Commissioner, however, we will need a head coach and at least two assistant coaches.  If we do not get enough interest, including coaches, to form a team, we will be happy to connect you to other Catholic schools in the area with teams.
